It can also help with some medical conditions and drastically improve the patient’s life choosing the surgery. Let\u2019s look at a perineoplasty, what the procedure is like, and how to care for yourself in the following weeks.<\/p>\n

What is the Perineum?<\/h2>\n

The perineum is the area between a woman\u2019s vagina and her anus. This area is frequently talked about before and during pregnancy and childbirth. Since the process of childbirth can cause tearing of the perineum tissue, it may have to be stitched together after the birth of a baby. Because of this, scarring can occur, and it can cause uneven healing in the area. It can also cause vaginal loosening, which can lead to dissatisfaction during intimacy. Many women are unaware of the different problems that can be caused by a tear in the perineum tissue- both cosmetic and medical.<\/p>\n

What is a Perineoplasty Procedure?<\/h2>\n

Perineoplasty<\/a>\u00a0is a surgical procedure that focuses on the area between the vagina and anus. This procedure can be done for cosmetic or medical reasons – often a combination of both. The procedure can reduce the appearance of scar tissue, make the area look more attractive, and give the individual a better sense of self-confidence. It can also help with sexual satisfaction and improve vaginal tightness. While this procedure is often combined with a labiaplasty, vaginoplasty, or other vaginal surgical procedures, it can also be performed independently. Its main goal is to help restore the perineum to its pre-pregnancy state, reducing scar tissue, damage and vaginal looseness.<\/p>\n

How is the Surgery Performed?<\/h3>\n

After a consultation with a doctor, he or she may recommend a perineoplasty, depending on the individual\u2019s concerns. Whether it be cosmetic or purely to help reduce vaginal loosening and increase sexual satisfaction, your doctor will help you on your quest to help repair any damage and reduce the amount of scarring present with your surgery.<\/p>\n

On your surgery date, you will go into your doctor\u2019s office and be prepared for local anesthesia of the perineum area. This outpatient procedure is typically performed in the doctor\u2019s office, as it does not require general anesthesia. Still, if you are more comfortable with general anesthesia, the surgery can also be performed in an outpatient surgery center.<\/p>\n

After the anesthesia is given, the procedure typically takes between thirty and forty-five minutes. During the procedure, the doctor uses a CO2 laser to make a V-shaped incision in the area and then removes the scar tissue entirely.<\/p>\n

After the scar tissue is removed, the remaining tissue and muscles are brought together with dissolvable sutures inserted during the surgery to reduce the amount of scarring after recovery.<\/h4>\n

Risks of Perineoplasty Surgery<\/h3>\n

Since a Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure, there are risks involved. The most common risks are bleeding and infection. Infections can be treated with antibiotics. Constipation can also occur, primarily due to fears of hurting the area after surgery, and can often be resolved by using stool softeners.<\/p>\n

Recovery After a Perineoplasty<\/h3>\n

Recovery from a Perineoplasty surgery is generally mild, and most individuals who undergo this procedure can return to work in a few days to a week. The area should always be kept clean and dry, and plenty of fiber and water are necessary to prevent constipation. The pain from surgery is usually mild enough to be treated with over-the-counter medications. Mild bleeding is expected and can be remedied using a maxi pad for a few days afterward. The stitches in the area usually dissolve within two weeks, and patients can return to their daily activities, including workout routines, within four weeks. Sexual activity can be resumed around six weeks after the procedure.<\/p>\n
