Suddenly covering your face with a serum-soaked cloth became the selfie du jour. Sheet masks, which originated in South Korea, were a virtually unknown beauty product in the United States until a few years ago when they started popping up on everyone\u2019s Instagram.<\/p>\n

Now those same masks designed to clear out pores, deter acne and infuse moisture on the face are being offered for the nether regions. So, is a \u201cface mask\u201d for the vaginal area really a good idea? Most experts answer that question with a resounding \u201cno\u201d.<\/p>\n

What is a Vulva Sheet Mask?<\/h2>\n

Products from companies with cheeky names like Two Lips claim that their infrared activated charcoal mask\u2019s four-step process \u201csoothes, detoxifies, brightens and moisturizes the vulva\u201d in addition to boosting lymphatic drainage.<\/p>\n

With a price point of $24.90 per mask, this product is costlier than many of the face sheet masks available. Yet, that price isn\u2019t deterring any buyers – the product is completely sold out online.<\/p>\n

Do You Need to Moisturize and Detoxify Down There?<\/h2>\n

Even though buyers are virtually flocking to buy these products, the quick answer is no. Actually, experts say, vulva sheet masks are potentially dangerous and could cause more harm than good. Unlike the face which is constantly exposed to the elements and can become zapped of moisture, the sensitive vaginal area is covered all day.<\/p>\n

We all heard our moms tell us not to wear wet bathing suits all day, the same logic applies to this scenario. Layering on extra moisture with sheet masks could lead to yeast and skin infections. In addition, the vaginal area is sensitive and less is more when it comes to taking care of it.<\/p>\n

Unhappy with Your Vaginal Area?<\/h2>\n
